Solid, Liquid and Gas

Everything falls into these groups: Solid, Liquid, Gas

Solids: are very easy to control the volume of the shape doesn’t change (unless you heat it).
Liquids: are hard to control they keep running away. You can freeze it to make a solid.
Gases: are the hardest to control, they take up all the space in their containers.

The Heart and Blood

In class 9 we have been learning about the heart and all it's important jobs, we will be telling you about the heart and the blood. We hope you enjoy our post.

Jobs that the heart does:

The heart circles the blood around the body and that gives us oxygen to all parts of our bodies. When this happens valves in our arteries open and shut to let the blood cells through. The heart is one of the main organs in the body. If we didn't have a heart we would not live.

The heart has many tubes pointing outwards into the different parts of our body and which are the tubes that the blood cells go through. In a minute the heart pumps about 60-70 times in a average human to keep us alive.

Jobs that blood does:
The blood runs through all parts of our body transporting oxygen. It also keeps our heart pumping and our heart makes the blood run through so it's like they are partners. without blood our brain wouldn't work to make us intelligent enough. Blood cells also keep us healthy by fighting infections and healing us when we get cut.

Healthy Eating

The Eat Well Plate

In Science we have been learning about how to eat a good balanced meal. We have found out some interesting facts and here are some of them.

1. If you have a packet of crisps a day in one week it is the equivalent amount of drinking a glass of oil.

2. If you don't drink enough water, you will be dehydrated.

3. If you eat to many high sugar and fatty treats it's possible in the future you could be over weight.

We have also found out about the 5 different food groups.

They are:

FATS and SUGARS - Sweets, Chips, Pizza, Chocolate, Biscuits, Cheese, Crisps, Butter

CARBOHYDRATES - Bread, Pasta, Potatoes, Rice

PROTEIN - Prawns, Eggs, Fish, Beans, Lentils, Meat

FRUIT and VEGETABLES - Carrots, Apples, Coconut, Cherries, Kiwi, Pineapple, Tomatoes, Cabbage, Broccoli, Cauliflower

DAIRY- Cream, Yogurt, Milk, Cheese, Soya milk

We must have a variety of fats, carbohydrates, proteins, fruit and veg and dairy. Our plate must be colourful and look like a rainbow at least everyday. The more you eat like the eat well plate the healthier and stronger you will become. So think about it. Would you rather be a healthy and strong person or an overweight and ill person?

If you eat healthily you will look younger and live a healthy life. You can still eat some sugary and salty treats but only a small quantity.

FATS
You need some types of fat to keep you healthy but many people eat too much fat.

FIBRE
Fibre is a part of food which can not be digested. It passes through us and helps push waste out of your body.

VITAMINS AND MINERALS
Eating lots of different foods gives you the vitamins and minerals you need to stay healthy.

FOOD SAFETY RULES
  • Always wash your hands before you touch food.
  • Don't cough or sneeze on your food it can cause a disease.
  • Keep pets, flies and other animals away from your food.

How Shadows are Formed

In science we were learning about light and shadows. We were learning how they were formed. We learned that whichever way the sun is facing the shadow is always on the opposite side. The only thing that is impossible is to draw your own shadow of your hand because shadows move with you.
If you want to play this game click enter on the game board.

Helping Plants Grow

In science we have learnt about plants. To make a plant grow it would need light, water, and nutrients. If you want a plant to be healthy you would need to give it all the stuff it needs. If you don't then eventually your plant is going to die. Try the game above; let's see if you can keep your plant alive.

All About Shadows

Shadows are formed when light is blocked. The sun looks like it's moving but it isn't, the earth is. It goes around the sun and while it's doing that it spins around.

Shadows

Shadows are formed when light is blocked. When you put your hand in front of a light source then the shadow is made under your hand. If the light source is behind any object the shadows will be in front of the object. If the light source is at the side the shadows will be at the opposite side.

Shadows

We are learning about shadows in science. Shadows are formed when the sun's beams are blocked by an object. In the morning the sun casts long shadows and at midday it casts small shadows.
